Patient Education: Arthroscopic Surgery

Ankle Arthroscopy

Minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery allows the surgeon to access your ankle using very small incisions (<1cm), a viewing camera, and specialized tools. There are many advantages to using this technique, such as:

  • Faster healing
  • Less pain
  • Can often be performed as an outpatient procedure
  • Less chance of infection
  • Little or no scarring

The following are some of the conditions that may be treated using arthroscopic techniques on the ankle:

  • Arthritis
  • Pain that persists after a fracture
  • Osteochondral Defects
  • Lateral Ligament Reconstruction
  • Undiagnosed Ankle Pain

As always, any questions about your treatment options should be discussed with your doctor.
