Mission and History
At Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida (JISF) our mission is to perform safe and effective surgical and non-surgical care aimed to restore each individual’s independence and quality of life.
Our office specializes in comprehensive orthopedics including; total joint replacement and reconstructive surgery, hand, elbow and upper extremity, foot and ankle care as well as sports medicine. Our surgeons are ALL fellowship trained in their sub-specialty, meaning they have completed additional training beyond the typical orthopedic residency preparation to become “experts” in the body parts they treat.
We are one of the largest practices in the country performing total joint replacement and one of the few, highly experienced practices in the anterior hip procedure.
Dr. Fenning, originally from Philadelphia, PA, initially established an orthopedic practice in Fort Myers in 1971. He was one of the first orthopedic surgeons in the SW Florida area. Having graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, he received his surgical training at the U.S. Naval Hospitals in Chelsea, MA, and Portsmouth, VA. He later completed an orthopedic surgical residency at Duke University. To date, Dr. Fenning has successfully performed more than 15,000 joint replacements, and is world-renowned for his innovative surgical procedures.
Dr. Humbert, founded Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida with Dr. Fenning in 2003. Dr. Humbert completed his undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Florida and later earned a masters degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Akron. He completed medical school at Nova Southeastern University followed by orthopedic residency training at Ohio University. It was his fellowship training in total joint replacement/reconstruction at “Joint Implant Surgeons” in Columbus, that sparked the current practice name, Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida, P.A.
In 2009, upper extremity and hand specialist, Dr. Dennis Sagini became a partner in the practice. Originally from Kenya, Dr. Sagini completed his undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Oklahoma. He then went on to achieve his Doctor of Medicine from Temple University and completed his residency at Howard University. His fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery was completed at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
2011 brought changes to the practice that were bitter sweet; a highly anticipated facility move and the retirement of our beloved, Dr. Fenning. The office location moved from a small space located in the Medical Office Center of Lee Memorial Hospital to the new, enhanced facility located at 7331 College Parkway. The office expansion allowed the practice to add multiple specialty surgeons, as well as several service lines such as MRI imaging, an expanded physical therapy department, digital x-ray and ultrasound.
